Google just announced a breakthrough in quantum error correction, which could lead to quantum computers capable of tackling real-world problems.
Thanks to new fabrication techniques and circuit optimizations, their new processor’s qubits have more than tripled the performance of their previous design.
The more of these qubits are used, the more errors are reduced, and the more quantum the system becomes.
However, despite the impressive results, there is still a long road ahead to large-scale quantum computers that can do anything useful.
Yet, Google appears to have reached an important point that suggests this vision is now within reach.
