Brain-Like Computer Simulates 180 Million Neurons

German startup SpiNNcloud has built a new  brain-like neuromorphic supercomputer that can simulate the activity of 180 Million Neurons.

The architecture of this computer is capable of solving problems beyond even the largest AI models, while drawing only around 20 watts of electrical energy.

Because Neuromorphic Computers are designed to  mimic the brain, compared to conventional systems using Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), energy requirements are significantly lowered.

Currently a  lack of software tools and supporting infrastructure makes it hard to get started. But the new SpiNNcloud system may make it worthwhile to invest in a new approach to computing.
