Using AI to discover and design materials is not new. But studies have mostly focused on hard materials or small chemicals.
But ironically, squishy hydrogels have always been a hard nut to crack. They are made of squishy molecules that swell in water.
Now a team from Japan and China has transformed these natural proteins into sticky hydrogels and used AI to create even stickier versions. In lab tests, they documented how they behaved in water.
This AI can now design other soft materials, especially ones with medical uses. Sticky when wet, the glue could seal injuries, heal wounds, and repair ships.
